Keep the Sun in your sights with the push of a button! The Orion Solar StarSeeker Tracking Altazimuth Mount makes Sun-gazing easier than ever before by automatically locating, centering and tracking the Sun's disk as it appears to travel across the sky.
A must-have for sunspot fans and eclipse-chasers, the GPS-equipped Orion Solar StarSeeker Mount features a built-in camera that works in tandem with the GPS system to find and center the Sun's disk without requiring any tedious alignment setup or data entry. Just press the power button and the Solar StarSeeker does the rest! Once the mount locates the Sun, it automatically begins tracking its apparent motion across the sky, so you can relax and enjoy the view through an attached solar filter-equipped telescope for as long as you wish.
A vertical, narrow Vixen-style dovetail cradle makes it easy to attach dedicated solar telescopes such as the Orion 70mm White-Light Solar Refractor Telescope, h-alpha telescopes, or small solar filter-equipped telescopes weighing up to 7 lbs. (all telescopes sold separately). If an attached instrument isn't squarely aligned in its mounting, a handy joystick button on the Solar StarSeeker can be used to override the mount's automated aiming system to compensate for small telescope or dovetail plate misalignments.
The Solar StarSeeker mount is supported by a sturdy, cylindrical-leg metal tripod that can be adjusted to hold attached telescopes as low as 37.5" to a max height of 57". The robust tripod minimizes vibrations for steady, smooth Sun-gazing performance. A useful accessory tray enhances tripod rigidity and provides a convenient storage spot for idle eyepieces. You don't have to worry about external power when using the Orion Solar StarSeeker Tracking Altazimuth Mount, since it's powered by 8 AA batteries (sold separately). You can take the Solar StarSeeker Mount wherever sunny skies are found thanks to its light weight of just 4.5 lbs.
CAUTION: The Orion Solar StarSeeker Mount is designed to automatically locate, center, and track the Sun. Do not use the Solar StarSeeker Mount with any telescope or optical instrument that does not have a professionally made solar filter securely installed before turning on the mount. Never look at the Sun, either directly or through a telescope, without a professionally made protective solar filter installed that completely covers the front of the instrument, or permanent eye damage could result.
