This is a double-stacked PST in excellent condition.  The optics on both the PST and on the double stack etalon are clean and clear.  The body is unmarked except for where the previous owner put a mark on the etalon tuning ring so that they'd know the "right" tuning location.

Comes with the 18mm CEMAX solar eyepiece, but no dovetail, and no box. The double-stack etalon is the SolarMax II 40mm Double Stacking Etalon.

The information immediately below is for the single-stacked version; the double-stack information follows.

  • 40mm f/10 H-alpha telescope - 400mm focal length
  • Internal non-removable filtering optics for same solar viewing
  • 1.0 angstrom hydrogen-alpha (Ha) bandpass
  • Shown on Infinity AZ tripod (not included)

The Personal Solar Telescope (P.S.T.) is a Coronado innovation. The world's most popular telescope to observe the Sun. This 40mm diameter highly portable dedicated solar telescope features completely internal non-removable and student safe solar filtering optics with a 1.0 angstrom hydrogen-alpha (Ha) bandpass for great surface detail. The P.S.T. will show you the dynamic, ever changing prominences at the edge of the Sun as well as filaments and other surface details in amazing detail, all in the brilliant and distinctive red color of hydrogen-alpha light.

Study of the solar disk is now within the reach of the amateur astronomer. The P.S.T. represents the same technology and quality that goes into a SolarMax series telescope available to the new solar astronomer at the cost of some single premium eyepieces.

Features a 40mm diameter dedicated Ha optical system with 30mm internal etalon primary blocking filter and incorporated focuser and bandpass fine adjustment controls and built in solar viewfinder. 400mm focal length, f/10 focal ratio, with Kellner 20mm eyepiece. Tripod not included.

Mounting options include use on a standard photo tripod (scope is threaded for a standard camera 1/4-20 mounting bolt), Infinity AZS, or the Meade DSM mount with computerized Autostar and GOTO technology. A custom hard case is available separately - see stock number PSTC.

Open up a whole new world of astronomy with the Coronado P.S.T.

SolarMax II 40mm Double Stacking Etalon

  • A fantastic upgrade to your PST!
  • Designed to attach to an existing etalon, creating a double-stack system
  • Includes RichView tuning to boost contrast on the solar feature being observed
  • Threads directly onto the front cell of a PST, narrowing the bandpass to <0.5 Angstroms (Å)!
  • Not to be used standalone, must be combined with existing PST or SolarMax 40 and blocking filter (BF)

This add on etalon filter reduces the normal bandwidth of a PST, SolarMax 40 telescope, or filter set (etalon and Blocking Filter combination) from the single stack 0.7-1 Angstrom (Å) performance to a more restrictive 0.5Å, increasing visibility of surface detail and active regions on the Solar disc. Note that this etalon MUST be combined with a primary SolarMax 40 filter and blocking filter, complete Coronado SolarMax 40 telescope, or a PST telescope.

Includes patented RichView tuning assembly, which allows direct tuning of the primary filter etalon. This provides a contrast boost for the best possible views of active regions, filaments and surface detail, or quickly and easily re-tune for prominences on the solar limb. Upgrade your PST or SolarMax 40 to a double stack configuration for an even more amazing view of our closest star!

Safe solar viewing requirements: Must be used with a blocking filter
T-max tuner: Yes
