NO MOUNT - Mark McDonald
This is a Takahashi FOA-60 ortho apo refractor in pristine, like new condition. Although this unit is about 15 years old, there isn't a mark anywhere on it. The objective is whistle-clean, as is the 6x30 finder.
This telescope is from the estate of Thomas Shea, user name "teashea" on Cloudy Nights. Mr. Shea was known there for his extensive collection of more than a dozen Taks. We've received ten of them, all in equally brand new, perfect, pristine condition:

Here's his photo of his telescope room, showing most of them:

He explained his lack of use of all of his scopes there:
"I am much more a telescope collector than a telescope user. As with all my Takahashi telescopes, this system has been used for less than two hours - to test it when I first purchased it. Since then it has been sitting in my dedicated telescope room, with HEPA air filtration."
Everything we've seen and know about his scopes proves this to be absolutely true. This is no different from a brand new scope. This is a nice savings off of the new one, so get it while it's still here!
Included Items:
- Takahashi FOA-60 Ortho Apo OTA (a $1270 value)
- Takahashi clamshell (a $170 value)
- Takahashi 6x30 finderscope (a $186 value) and bracket (a $54 value)
- Vixen Porta II mount head with handle (a $250 value) on a Vixen SXG-HAL 130 tripod (a $225 value)
- Original Takahashi manual
This is over $2150 worth of gear for just $1400!
This scope is on display on our showroom floor. The scope and mount/tripod will ship in a padded tripod bag; we have obtained suitable shipping boxes for this, and can ship it to you for a $99 shipping charge.
The FOA-60 is a new compact apochromatic fluorite doublet refractor from Takahashi. The telescope features a 60 mm aperture and a 530 mm focal length = f/8.8
The spacing of the doublet elements is such that the correction of the spherical aberrations is similar to that found in the much larger TOA series. This innovative design results in a Strehl ratio in excess of 96%.
Compact design for relatively long focal length, making it ideal for transport
Outstanding visual and photographic performance, providing a 44 mm diameter image circle for full frame imaging.

Vixen Porta II Alt-Az Mount
The Porta II is a solid altazimuth mount with a 20lb payload capacity and features Slow Motion Flexible Handles to minimize vibrations and keep your view sharp. This is very useful in searching and tracking celestial objects. The Sky at Night says: "When moving the telescope around the sky with this mount, we found any vibrations quickly dampened down. The whole system was very stable, even when the tripod was at its maximum extended height"*. The mount head is easily removed to allow for a switch to a heavier tripod. In addition, this is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. With no locks or clutches, our gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or a ship on the horizon by turning the elevation and/or azimuth control handles. The Porta II Mount features slow motion control of both axes, solid central bolt for easy tripod change, flex handles and accessory tray.
The “World-Standard” dovetail attachment system on PORTA II was developed by Vixen. This allows the PORTA II to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and binoculars.
