This is an Orion ST80 on a Vixen Porta II Alt-Az mount and tripod, including the slow motion knobs.  The scope and mount are both in excellent condition, with clean optics and body.  Everything works perfectly.

The scope is loaded!  It comes absolutely complete, so you don't need to buy anything else with it.  The tube includes the rings, a William Optics Vixen dovetail, and both dust caps.

It also includes all of the following:

  • a 1.25" Orion dielectric diagonal
  • an SvBony 6x30 finder
  • solar filters that fit both the dust cap hole on the ST80 and on the finderscope
  • a 20mm Kellner eyepiece for 20x magnification
  • a 6.3mm Kellner for 63x magnification
  • a neutral density moon filter
This is a GREAT portable scope setup for some lovely, low-powered views of the skies.  Additionally, with the additional of a Barlow, this scope is capable of getting up to a maximum of around 150x as well.  This is a bargain at the used price.

This does not have its original box or packing materials, so it is available for in-store pickup only.

Orion ST80 OTA

  • ShortTube 80 wide-field wonder, configured for astronomical viewing, is back!
  • Multi-coated 400mm (f/5.0) achromatic optics provide maximum light throughput to your eye for bright views of deep-sky and solar system objects
  • Features a smooth-adjusting 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser to keep images sharp
  • Includes tube rings.

It's back! The Orion ShortTube 80-A achromatic refractor telescope is back in our lineup, by popular demand. It's the version of our ShortTube 80 achromatic refractor that's outfitted for astronomical observation (the "A" is for Astronomy).

The ShortTube 80-A is a compact, wide-field, take-anywhere astro telescope. You'll love the bright, expansive views it delivers. The telescope's 80mm objective lens and short 400mm (f/5) focal length are ideal for scanning the heavens. Its wide field of view makes it a great choice for viewing big deep sky targets, and its portable size makes it easy to bring along on trips to dark skies. You'll see fascinating star clusters, wispy nebulas, and even galaxies, but this compact refractor also serves up detailed images of the Moon's cratered surface, Saturn's rings, and other solar system targets.

The ShortTube 80-A's doublet objective lens is multi-coated for excellent light transmission. It is housed in an all-aluminum tube that's just 15" long, with a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser on one end and an aluminum dew shield on the other that extends more than 3" out from the lens to prevent dew formation and block off-axis glare.

Lastly, the ShortTube 80-A includes two felt-lined, hinged tube rings for attachment of the telescope to the compatible mount of your choice.

Let the Orion ShortTube 80-A 80mm Refractor Telescope introduce your whole family to the wonders of the night sky! And for the astro hobbyist who already owns a bigger telescope, the ST80-A makes a wonderful grab-and-go second telescope to have on hand! Assembled weight, 4 lbs. 10.6 oz.

In The Box

  • Vixen dovetail

Vixen Porta II Alt-Azimuth Mount/Tripod

To provide a solid and secure observational platform, Vixen includes their Porta II manual alt-azimuth mount. Two control knobs, one for each axis, allows users to make small and precise adjustments for tracking subjects. Its two 120-tooth worm gears let the altitude and azimuth travel a full 360° circle. The Porta II operates without locks and clutches, but rather with a friction system. This means you can simply move the mount by hand to quickly find your subject, then use the slow-motion knobs to track.

Mount:
  • Manual alt-azimuth design
  • 20-pound payload capacity
  • Clutchless friction control system is easy to move by hand and stays where placed
  • Dual-axis slow motion control knobs enable precise tracking and centering of objects with reduced vibration
  • 120-tooth wheel gears provide 360° movement on each axis
  • Vixen-style dovetail saddle is compatible with a wide variety of OTAs
Tripod:
  • Two leg sections
  • Aluminum legs help to reduce weight
  • Adjustable 35.4-51.2" height accommodates a wide variety of users
