Put simply, the L-Synergy filter is best used by more advanced users who want to shoot nebula images in a true Hubble "SHO" palette with their one-shot color camera.
To do this, you'd combine two image stacks—one exposed through the L-Synergy, and the other exposed through Optolong's L-Extreme filter.
Opotlong L-Synergy is a dual 7nm narrowband filter compatible with DSLR cameras, color CMOS sensors, and CCD cameras, supporting telescope systems with F-ratio of F3.3 or above (i.e., slower systems). Its key advantage lies in enabling astrophotography amateurs to capture exceptionally detailed emission nebulae even in light-polluted environments.
After years of technical refinement, it has been optimized to minimize bright star halos while isolating all emission lines except SII and OIII, achieving maximum effective transmission.
Optical Design
By analyzing the spectral characteristics of both celestial emission lines and light pollution, L-Synergy selectively preserves the SII and OIII nebula colors while filtering out the majority of light pollution. Specifically designed and optically optimized, L-Synergy maintains consistently high transmission across both SII and OIII bands. This ensures users can precisely capture the target nebula emissions, delivering optimal astrophotography results.

Coating Technology
·Multi-layers anti-reflection coating
·Non-cementing optical substrate coating
·Optolong filter adopts precision coating based on Ion-assisted deposition coating technology for durability and resistance to scratching, as well as stability on CWL(central wavelength) no deviation affected by temperature change.
·Planetary rotation system offers precision and homogeneity of coatings ensuring high value on transmission of pass-band and Optical density of off-band.
Which to Choose?
- L-Pro provides the broadest spectrum and most natural color. Suitable for imaging nebula and galaxy targets.
- UHC is not as broad spectrum, less natural color, but will block more stray light and skyglow than the L-Pro. Best suited to nebula targets, not broad spectrum targets like galaxies or clusters.
- L-Enhance is a narrow tri-band filter. Best suited to capturing dim nebula targets. Will decrease brightness of surrounding stars, allowing for more faint detail.
- L-eXtreme is a dual-narrow-band filter providing the tightest spectrum in only H-Alpha and OIII. Suitable for deep sky imaging under light polluted skies, and delivering the richest nebula detail.
- L-Synergy can be used in conjunction with the L-eXtreme for a full hubble palette imaging with a color camera.
If you plan to use the filter to image a wide range of targets, the L-Pro is the most versatile. The L-eXtreme will provide the most faint detail on emission nebula, and the UHC is a budget option in the middle.
